2013 – Kilian and the very first children helped by KYCC
Tanzania is a land of peace, potential and political stability. Tourists from around the world are attracted to the beautiful wildlife national parks of Lake Manyara, Ngorogoro Crater and Serengeti all in close proximity to Karatu. Telecommunication and the expanding discovery of natural gas, and minerals such as Tanzanite are bringing new sources of income.
Yet, the poverty level in Karatu is a significant problem. There are orphans and children whose families cannot afford to send them to school. Some are even living on the streets. These children are less likely to enroll, attend and complete school because of the cost, poor health, and lack of preparation to be successful in educational settings.
It is well known that many of these uneducated children often grow up to be poor, uneducated adults. And – the cycle of poverty continues.
