WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

2013 – Kilian and the very first children KYCC helped.

Tanzania is a land of peace, potential and political stability. Tourists from around the world are attracted to the beautiful wildlife national parks of Mayanara, Ngorogoro Crater and Serengetti all in close proximity to Karatu. Telecommunication and the expanding discovery of natural gas, and minerals such as Tanzanite are bringing new sources of income.

Yet, most residents In Karatu are very poor. It is well known that orphans and poor, uneducated in rural Tanzania, Africa often grow up to be poor, uneducated adults and the cycle repeats. Unfortunately, they are less likely to enroll in and complete school because of the costs, poor health and a lack of preparation for educational purposes.

Lack of jobs, traditional beliefs, reduced regard for children and malnutrition often result in cognitive delays and motor development. Combined with the premature deaths of parents and grandparents many of the children live with daily struggles and little hope for the future.
