PRESCHOOL EDUCATION CLASS

AGE RANGE: 3-5 YEARS OLD

Children who learn to read in the first three years of their education are likely to become fluent readers increasing their ability to be more successful in school programming. At KYCC, our preschool age children are given an academic ‘boost” so they will be ready to learn when they enter the school setting.

In the preschool program our children are instructed in reading and math readiness, English language acquisition, and social/communication skills. They are also fed two healthy meals a day, taught the importance of hand washing and brushing teeth, and given the opportunity to exercise using playground equipment along with organized games such as soccer (called football in Tanzania) and volleyball.

The nutrition and exercise make a significant difference in the overall health of the children. Additionally, they receive medical treatment when sick or injured and, preventatively, receive deworming pills so the nutrients from their meals will be digested. There are currently 40 children in this class.

ACADEMIC TUTORING CLASS

AGE RANGE: 5-12 YEARS OLD

In this after school program, students are given additional support as they prepare to take required school examinations. Unless they pass these tests, they will not move on to the next level of school. They are also instructed in English language acquisition and test taking skills. Some of the students are able to pay tuition for this class and the ones who cannot are sponsored by KYCC.
